About Acute Sinusitis

Acute sinusitis is a short-term inflammation or infection of the sinuses (air-filled spaces around the nose, cheeks, eyes, and forehead). It often develops after a common cold and usually lasts less than 4 weeks. Most cases are caused by viruses and improve on their own within 7–10 days.

Common symptoms

• Stuffy or blocked nose

• Thick yellow or green nasal discharge

• Facial pain, pressure, or tenderness (especially around the cheeks, eyes, or forehead)

• Headache

• Reduced sense of smell or taste

• Postnasal drip (mucus running down the throat)

• Cough, especially at night

• Fatigue

• Mild fever in some cases
